Johannes Zits | biography
Johannes Zits received his BFA from the York University (1984). He has shown both nationally and internationally and has participated in two thematic residencies at Banff Centre for the Arts. Zits has traveled widely while pursuing his art research. His extended stays in various cities include Taipei, Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Shanghai, London, Berlin and Caen where in January of 2008, he will present a large solo exhibition, traversing his many disciplines, at the Centre D'Art Contemporain de Basse Normandie. In February of 2006, he presented a suite of four textile based collages at BizArt in Shanghai, as well as Body Print: Shanghai performance. Other Body Print performances include Paris, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Zits will premier a new video, created for the Il labirinto di Padella 2008 residency, in Sicily as well as present new work at Wilde Gallery in Berlin.
Zits engages in work that combines digital imaging, photography, collage and painting that focuses on the body. His work intends to draw attention to both the conventional image making process as well as the way images from mass media are disseminated and consumed. His work has been supported by the Canada Council the BC Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council. He is currently teaching a Digital Painting course at OCAD.
